In the United States, there are many people who work in the healthcare industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are approximately 12 million healthcare workers including those in the field of home health care, long term care, and disability. This number is consistent with the BLS statistics from 2021. Other employment for healthcare workers include home health aides, administrators and managers of nursing-home facilities, dentists, doctors and surgeons, nurses and physician assistants, pharmacy technicians, and office staff members.

In order to provide quality health care, clinics must have qualified healthcare professionals. Qualified healthcare professionals may be required to work in various healthcare facilities such as doctor’s offices, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, outpatient clinics, and clinics that treat only a specific illness or disease. Some clinics may conduct research or offer services in collaboration with local or state agencies, or they may provide services in rural areas. Women may also find employment in the maternity and postpartum care units of clinics. According to The Medical Institute for Preventive Medicine, employment options for nurses include registered nurses, direct patient care technicians, licensed practical nurses, and nonphysician personnel to include nurse practitioners, chiropractors, physical therapists, psychotherapists, and clinical psychologists.
